Is Noam Chomsky out of touch with reality?
It seems that Noam Chomsky is content on proving that he is out of touch with reality. In a recent interview on Hot Type with Evan Solomon, Noam Chomsky stated, Those who defend suicide bombing, and there are very few, don't have a leg to stand on. So exactly how many is a few? Chomsky doesn't say but in a, June 2002 poll by the Jerusalem Media and Communications Centre showed that a large majority - nearly seven out of 10 people - supported the suicide operations, about 60% of those expressing their "strong" support. Therefore nearly 70 percent of the Palestinian people are in favor of suicide bombing. One can hardly characterize this as a few. But there is even more in the same interview Chomsky is asked "if the United States is a leading terrorist state ... how do you distinguish between what you describe as terrorism and what they are saying - Osama Bin Laden who's a terrorist?" Comsky's reply was "It's very simple. If they do it, it's terrorism. If we do it, it's counter-terrorism". But wait Chomsky can't settle for that example, it's not anti-American enough, so he pushes on:
"That's a historical universal ... If you look at Nazi propaganda, that's exactly what they said. They said they're defending the populations and the legitimate governments of Europe like Vichy from the terrorist partisans who are directed from London. That's the basic propaganda line."
Basically Chomsky is arguing that those who proclaim to be counter-terrorist are really terrorist and terrorist are just defending themselves from counter-terrorist. Not that I am a big fan of George Orwell but Chomsky's argument has gotten double-think all over it. "Who are the 'real' terrorist? The counter-terrorist. Who are the 'real' counter-terrorist? The terrorist." It's seems that Chomsky's argument is even more bizarre in that Nazi's believed that they were defending the Aryan Race, not the "populations", from the Zionist Occupied Governments, not "the terrorist partisans who are directed from London". And hence there cause was based on a fabricated image of reality (not far off like Mr. Chomsky). Therefore the actions of the Nazi governments were illegitimate. However, unlike the Nazis America retaliates out of fear of another attack on it's soil like September 11, which is legitimate. There is no equivalence between the two. The Nazi’s made up reasons to attack while America does not!
So it seems as usual Chomsky has shown how he tends to blur reality with his own world of make believe...
